Planning Your All Inclusive Alaska Fishing Vacations
Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula offers incredible fishing opportunities throughout the fishing season(May-September), with different species peaking at various times. The best fishing season depends on the type of fish you’re targeting and the experience you’re looking for.
King salmon typically arrive in the early summer, with peak fishing from late May through July. Sockeye salmon runs are strongest in June and July, providing fast-paced action in rivers like the Kenai and Russian. Silver salmon make their appearance later in the season, with the best fishing occurring from August through September.
For those interested in rainbow trout and Dolly Varden, the fishing is typically good all season with it peaking during the fall with the legendary bead bite, when they feed heavily on salmon eggs during the spawning season. This makes September one of the most exciting times for trout fishing.
Even-numbered years bring an additional treat with pink salmon, which flood the rivers in huge numbers during July and August. On these even numbered years we often see giant trout. There is so much food in the rivers during these years you can see eggs as they float down the river. In eddies and slow current areas it’s not uncommon to see thousands of eggs piled up on the bottom.
