Salmon fishing on the Kenai River is one of the most exciting things you can do in Alaska! The river is famous for having lots of salmon, especially sockeye (red) salmon and silver (coho) salmon. These fish are fun to catch because they fight hard and taste delicious.
Sockeye salmon are the most popular fish to catch on the Kenai River. They swim upriver in huge numbers during the summer, usually in June and July. People love fishing for sockeye because they are strong and fast, and they make great meals. You can catch them from the riverbank or from a boat, and they like to bite on simple setups like flies and beads.
In August and September, the silver salmon arrive. They are known for being super fun to catch because they jump out of the water and put up a great fight. Silver salmon like to chase lures and bait, making them exciting for both new and experienced anglers.
